Privacy notice

How Silvester Vets Ltd collects and uses your personal data.

Last updated: October 2026

This notice explains what personal information Silvester Vets collects, why we need it, who we share it with and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and plain. If anything is unclear, please ask us.

Who we are

Silvester Vets Ltd is an independent veterinary practice in Yeovil, owned by Tom and Sonia Roffe-Silvester. Veterinary Task Force is a trading name of Silvester Vets Ltd, and this notice covers it too. Silvester Vets Ltd is the controller of the personal information described here.

Silvester Vets Ltd, 22A Oxford Road, Pen Mill, Yeovil BA21 5HR. Email enquiries@silvestervets.co.uk or ring 01935 804227.

What we collect

  • Your name, address, phone number and email address.
  • Details of your pets, their clinical history, treatments, test results and medicines.
  • Appointment, booking and payment records. Card payments are handled by our payment provider; we do not see or keep your full card number.
  • Anything you tell us in a message, on a form, by phone or in person.
  • For Veterinary Task Force courses: your booking and payment details, and any professional or dietary information you give us for the course.
  • Basic technical information when you use this website, such as your IP address, which your browser shares with the services that deliver the site and its fonts.

How we use it, and why we are allowed to

  • To look after your pet and run your account: booking visits, treatment, prescriptions, invoices and payments. We need this information to provide the service you ask for (contract).
  • To keep the records the law requires, including clinical records and the medicine records required by the Veterinary Medicines Regulations (legal obligation).
  • To send reminders about vaccinations, health checks and repeat medicines, and to reply to your messages (legitimate interests: caring for your pet properly).
  • To tell you when our new surgery opens, if you register your interest, and to send any other news you sign up for (consent). You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • In an emergency, to pass your pet’s details to the out-of-hours vets so they can treat your pet safely (vital interests and legitimate interests).

Who we share it with

We never sell your information. We only share it where it is needed:

  • Lupa, our practice management and online booking system, which holds client and pet records and takes online bookings and payments for us.
  • Medivet Dorchester, our out-of-hours partner, when your pet needs emergency care while we are closed.
  • Laboratories, referral vets and crematoria, when your pet’s care needs them.
  • Our website host and email provider, who store our website and messages on our behalf.
  • Stripe, which takes payments for Veterinary Task Force courses.
  • Professional advisers, insurers and regulators such as the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or the police and courts, where the law requires it.

Some of these providers may store information outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards approved under UK data protection law.

How long we keep it

We keep client and clinical records for as long as you are a client and for a reasonable period afterwards, in line with our legal obligations and professional guidance. Medicine records are kept for at least five years. Website messages that do not lead to you becoming a client are deleted within twelve months. If you register your interest in the surgery, we keep your details until it opens or until you ask us to remove them.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete your information, where we do not need to keep it by law;
  • restrict or object to how we use it, including stopping reminders or news at any time;
  • send your information to you or another organisation in a usable format.

To make a request, email enquiries@silvestervets.co.uk. We will reply within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
